Surf boards stem from two main families. Surf style and skim style. Hybrid boards are shaped trying to blend the two shapes together in some aspect. Surf style boards are more buoyant and typically easier for beginners to learn on. Skim style boards are thinner, less buoyant, and smaller. A skim style board usually has minimal rocker and no bottom features. This results in easy spins and the ability to throw shuvits.
The rider weight sizing is a loose guideline. Rider size and ability, as well as wave size, are all factors to consider when choosing a board. As always, contact us if you have any questions at all.
